Her presence advances Shawnathan's (Shawn+Jonathan…unless you have a better ship name) relationship each time all three of them are together. I like to think of Carrie as the supporter, mediator, and catalyst.

I was just about to make a thread on here to discuss when I stumbled upon this thread even though not a lot of users have repliedand my take on the movie is that when Shawn admits that he knew about the teachers meddling all along and he declares that Jonathan will always be his best friend, it entails that he'll always be there for him no matter what. I read multiple reviews and discussions and examined many other opinions and responses based on their take from the movie. I was scouring the interwebs just to find the answers to these questions myself. If I knew that one of my bestfriends was in love with me, I'd try to put some distance for the sake of our friendship, give that person some time to at least try to get over it, I wouldn't stick with him/her. Which straight guy would have sex with his bestfriend out of desperation and fear of loneliness? In the end, he accepted Jonathan's feelings. Omg, yes! I thought one of them would die! I was so scared when Shane had the accident and I thought "That's it. At least this one didn't end up with anyone dying (I really thought one of them would) And maybe the guy said all of that because he knew they couldn't be together because they're both guys? I just wanted a clearer ending T_T I just feel like 95% of all LGBT movies are sad and/or never have a happy ending. I like to believe they both had feelings for each other, it seemed like he held stronger feelings than friendship for the other guy. I know I won't get any here (anywhere T_T), but I'd like to know what you understood from the film. I don't know, I'm not sure, I need answers! I think they romantically love each other, but. It's like, somehow, she helped them to fully understand themselves and their relationship, but maybe I'm wrong. His affection seemed too intense, and the girl someone they needed to realise their feelings. Maybe he realised that he's in love with Jonathan after all. Could it be that he loved Jonathan back? Or just that he accepted his love, but didn't reciprocate his feelings and saw him only as a friend? But then, why did he make love to him? Just out of desperation? what do you think Shane's last sentence means? He said "You really are my bestfriend". I watched it twice and I still don't understand.

I'm going to talk about the ending, so don't read if you don't want to know. If you haven't watched it but you want to, here's the link: "Eternal Summer" is a Taiwanese film with lgbt contents (the main character is gay and in love with his bestfriend).
